Bixby - an honest area guide

- Where Bixby is

Bixby sits south of Tulsa along the Arkansas River, directly adjacent to south Tulsa and Jenks, with most of the city inside Tulsa County. It carries the nickname "The Garden Spot of Oklahoma," a title the city adopted in 1941 for its agricultural roots and one that still appears on the town seal today.

Growth character

That growth has brought a wave of new retail and residential development along the city's main corridors, even as the historic downtown blocks near Main Street have been repaved and reinvested in rather than left behind.

- Housing character

Bixby's housing stock is among the newer inventory in the Tulsa metro, with large sections of the city built within the last two decades. Subdivisions continue to push south along Memorial Drive and Mingo Road - including large master-planned communities such as Robinson Ranch - generally on bigger lots than what's typical closer to the urban core. Older, established pockets remain closer to the historic downtown and the river, giving the city a mix of build eras rather than one uniform look.

- Getting around

US-64 is Bixby's main commuter route, turning south at its interchange with Memorial Drive and running directly into town. State Highway 67 reaches Bixby from the west along 151st Street South, terminating at Memorial Drive. Memorial Drive itself is the primary north-south corridor, carrying most local and commuter traffic between Bixby, Jenks, and south Tulsa.

- Downtown and the river

Downtown Bixby's River District has been reworked in recent years into a walkable stretch of red-brick streets and steel-arched storefronts, anchoring the city's older commercial core along Main Street. The Arkansas River runs along the city's western edge, and Memorial Drive has become a corridor of newer retail centers and restaurants as commercial development has followed the city's residential growth.

- Schools

Bixby is served by Bixby Public Schools across nearly all of the city. As with any growing suburb, new schools have been added over time to keep pace with new subdivisions, so the specific school assignment for a given address should always be confirmed directly rather than assumed from the neighborhood name.
