Jenks - an honest area guide

- Where Jenks is

Jenks sits directly south of Tulsa along the west bank of the Arkansas River, wedged between south Tulsa and Bixby in Tulsa County. It's a small city by footprint but a well-known name across the metro, built around a historic Main Street that never emptied out the way a lot of small-town downtowns did.

Growth character

That mix of new rooftops and an already-established identity is unusual for a city this size, and it's part of why Jenks reads as more than just a pass-through suburb on the way to somewhere else.

- Housing character

Jenks' housing stock ranges from smaller, older homes near the historic downtown core to larger new-construction homes pushing toward the city's southern boundary. Because the city is geographically compact, older and newer construction sit closer together here than in a sprawling suburb - a mid-century home a few blocks from a house finished within the past few years is a common pairing. New subdivisions continue to fill in the remaining land toward the Bixby line.

- Getting around

US-75 runs directly through Jenks and is the fastest route to downtown Tulsa, roughly ten to fifteen minutes depending on where you start. The Creek Turnpike connects Jenks to Bixby, Broken Arrow, and south Tulsa without needing to cross the river or cut through the city's downtown streets. Inside town, Elm Street and Main Street carry most local traffic toward the river and the historic core.

- The Riverwalk and downtown Jenks

The Jenks Riverwalk - anchored by Riverwalk Crossing along the Arkansas River - is the city's best-known gathering spot, with restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues built right along the water. A few blocks away, historic downtown Jenks has built its identity around antique shops and small retail along Main Street, and the city is also home to the Oklahoma Aquarium, one of its most-visited landmarks.

- Schools

Jenks is served by Jenks Public Schools across nearly all of the city, with a small number of addresses near the city's edges falling into neighboring districts instead. As always, the correct district for a specific home should be confirmed by address rather than assumed from the city name alone.
