74120 wraps around the east and north edges of downtown Tulsa and holds several distinct, named districts: the Cherry Street shopping strip, the Blue Dome entertainment district, the historic Greenwood District, and the residential pocket of Swan Lake, with the Pearl District and Tracy Park along its downtown-facing edge.

Cherry Street's name goes back to Tulsa's original 1906 plat maps, before city ordinance renamed it 15th Street in the early 1900s. The commercial strip between Peoria and Utica developed through the 1920s, fell into disrepair by the 1970s, and was revived in 1982 when a bakery relocated downtown and took the name "The Bakery on Cherry Street" - reviving the old name along with the block. Today the seven-block district is the only shopping strip in Tulsa listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Blue Dome traces to the railroad era: the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe reached Tulsa in 1905, and the district grew up serving its freight yards. Its namesake building opened in January 1925 as the White Star Service Station, Tulsa's first full-service, 24-hour filling station. Route 66 was routed along East 2nd Street through the district in 1926, and the seventeen-block Blue Dome Historic District was added to the National Register in 2016. It now anchors Tulsa's nightlife.

Greenwood is the zip's most historically significant district: founded around 1906 by O.W. Gurley and grown into a self-sufficient Black-owned business community of roughly 11,000 people by 1920, popularly known as Black Wall Street. The district was destroyed in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and rebuilt by returning residents over the following decade despite punitive rezoning efforts. The Greenwood Historic District was added to the National Register in 2022, and Greenwood Rising now tells that history on the site.
