Woodland Hills Mall itself opened August 4, 1976, with Sears, John A. Brown, and Dillard's as its original anchors, followed by a 1982 expansion that added a food court and a fourth anchor; today it's anchored by JCPenney, Macy's, Dillard's, and Scheels. The mall helped establish 71st Street, running from Memorial Drive to Garnett Road, as Tulsa's busiest shopping corridor, and the city approved a rezoning of the corridor's roughly 720 acres and 183 properties in late 2023 to modernize decades-old zoning and fund new sidewalks, lighting, and streetscaping.

Like much of South Tulsa, 74133 is built for driving rather than walking - it ranks among the less walkable parts of the city - but it makes up for that with more than 200 restaurants and coffee shops, well-distributed green space, and easy reach of the Riverfront District and Robinson Park, all within a short drive of downtown.

Because the zip covers so many individual subdivisions built across different decades, housing character varies block to block: some pockets date to the 1970s and 80s, others are newer construction, and lot sizes generally run larger than in Tulsa's older core neighborhoods. Addresses here are zoned to Tulsa Public Schools.
